MUSAC has played a fundamental part in the development of contemporary art in Castile and León, establishing a bridge between local artists and international tendencies. It is conceived as a stage for art as a structure based on an open system, made up of a tissue of squares and rhombuses, to make the art "feel comfortable". Built on a single level of over 8000 square metres, it allows for a spacious and comfortable area to materialize where art is open to dialogue with the onlooker in the different spaces. Its eye-catching front of multicoloured glass is an obvious allusion to the stained-glass windows of the Cathedral, and is the main image of the museum.
