The white stone image is by the sculptor Marino Amaya of Astorga, known the world over as the sculptor of children.

The statue stands atop a tall square-section pillar of rusticated ashlars, each side has a plain pilaster engaged in it with a Corinthian capital.
The whole stands on a plinth with two rusticated pilasters engaged in each corner, and is by the architect Cañas del Río.
It was unveiled on the 3rd June 1956.

On the same circus are the offices of the Subdelegación (representation in the province) of the Central Government.
